The Forbidden Current and this website explain how electrical, chemical, mechanical and thermal systems work. The large systems in the books are described, not given as instructions: there are no step-by-step procedures, cut lists or exact dimensions for them. The simple one-page builds in Volume III are chosen to be low-hazard, but every build still carries risk.

Hazards are real

Electricity can kill at household voltages. Batteries can burn or explode. Hydrogen, ammonia, chlorine, carbon monoxide and other gases named in the books are toxic, flammable or both. Pressure vessels, rotating machines, high-frequency fields and arcs can injure. Read the safety notes, and if you are not trained for a task, do not attempt it.

Codes, permits and the law

Electrical, building, gas, fire and radio rules differ by place and change over time. Anything connected to a building, a utility, or the airwaves must meet current local codes and licensing, and may need a permit and a licensed professional. Verify against current codes and manufacturer instructions before relying on anything you read here.

Historical and contested material

Much of the material is historical or contested and is reported with an evidence status. Reporting a claim is not endorsing it, and a historical device is not a recommendation to build one.
